The Chirurgeons Apprentice

The Chirurgeons Apprentice

The Chirurgeons Apprentice is a site that is dedicated to a study of early modern 'chirurgeons' [surgeons], and all the blood and gore that comes with it. Surgeons are amongst the highest paid professionals in the medical world today. They are the ‘miracle-workers’ of the 21st century, capable of saving and transforming the lives of their patients.

At the beginning of the 17th century, chirurgeons were closely related to barbers and other craftsmen who learned their trade through apprenticeships. After the Restoration, however, chirurgeons broke from their medieval role and began participating in important medical debates. Their advocacy of ‘practical’ medicine and experimentation distinguished them from their university-educated counterparts, the physicians, and helped elevate their role in the medical marketplace.

Monsters from Hell

Monsters from Hell
A Tribute to Hammer Films. Dedicated to the 'House of Horror'-Hammer Films, past present & future. After collecting Hammer material and other film material for over 30 years I always thought it a terrible waste that only I would ever gaze upon these images so I decided to create Monsters From Hell which at the time was one of a small few magazines which covered Hammer and other classic horror films. Lots of magazines and books have been published on Hammer over the years, but most concentrate on using the same old publicity shots churned out dozens of times. This is where Monsters From Hell is completely different. www.monstersfromhell.co.uk
